Field Testing for Remote eLab Assessments
As an INSCYD partner, we are able to perform remote performance testing with lab level accuracy.
We offer full metabolic testing both in and out of the lab. Having partnered with INSCYD since 2017, we conduct blood lactate testing and INSCYD analytics to match the in-depth analysis previously only obtainable in the lab using a metabolic cart. This allows us to do field testing out on the road, track, or in the water for swimmers and triathletes.
Live too far away from us? For this application, we use INSCYD’s Power-Performance Decoder (PPD) to offer remote testing for runners and cyclists. With this analysis tool, we can test remotely without sampling lactate or VO2.
More on the PPD.
PPD is the first and only tool combining physiological lab data (lactate values or VO2 captured in the lab or field) with a power meter for cycling tests and/or GPS data for running tests.
PPD and blood lactate field testing offer up the following data:
Maximum aerobic performance (VO2max)
Maximum glycolytic performance (VLamax)
Accumulation and recovery of lactate
Fat and Carbohydrate combustion rates
Aerobic vs. anaerobic energy contribution ratios
By using the PPD we can now measure key performance variables using power files, GPS data, and/or blood lactate data to create evidence-based prescriptions outside of the lab. INSCYD is a validated algorithm developed by world-class level coach and physiologist, Sebastian Weber. INSCYD allows our physiologists to obtain metrics, otherwise only allowable with more advanced instruments in our laboratory, across different sports - cycling, running, rowing & swimming. So, if you want to get customized training prescriptions in the field, or with a group, give us a call and we'll bring the lab to you!
Remote testing – full 360° athletic performance profile assessed outside of the lab. The Power-Performance Decoder allows our experienced coaches to test athletes remotely: outdoor or indoor. Testing can be done as part of a regular training session, alone on the road or trainer.
Despite this very helpful tool, if coming to the lab or field testing for lactate are an option, we recommend lab and/or field testing with blood lactate sampling over the PPD protocol. Why? The PPD test results are very robust when compared to lab-based testing; however, the protocol is very rigorous and can be challenging for non- or less-experienced athletes. This can lead to repeat efforts and/or less robust test results. Also note, that with PPD testing a body composition analysis must also be performed to obtain results.
