eFit is our biomechanics lab and bike fit service. An essential component of our eCycle of fitness philosophy, this is where we assess your position on the bike, diagnose factors that will improve your biomechanical efficiency and comfort and make the necessary adjustments to achieve the best possible fit on your bike.
A good bike fit will improve muscle recruitment coordination, bike-handling skills, and comfort and minimize the risk of injury.
A good bike fitter will know the science behind the complex muscle recruitment patterns involved in pedaling and the cognitive factor that enables them to see it in action, explain how it works and teach it. Fitters who have many years of experience at cycling’s elite level and have been exposed to the most elite resources usually have “the eye” that can’t be learned in schools or clinics.
Choose a fitter that combines experience and knowledge with the latest technologies.
Today’s benchmark for gathering data is the 3D motion capture system, Retül.
Retül has developed the technology to three dimensionally capture the movement of 8 LED sensors placed on a cyclist’s body. They have also created the software to analyze the power and efficiency of those movements at different positions on the bike – to basically build the rider as a 3D stick figure and record the mechanics of the pedal stroke.
The Retül system uses a 3D camera, a harness of infrared LED lights and a digitizer that continually logs data while the rider is riding.
It is a fitting tool…the most comprehensive fitting tool available. But, there is no such thing as a “fitting system”. In the rights hands, Retül can be a powerful tool in fitting riders to their bikes.
Like many fit services today, we have the latest technologies to capture data and the knowledge to assess it and place you in a generally accepted position on your bike. But if like most cyclists, you’re only converting a small percentage of energy into pedaling mechanical force, this standard approach to bike fitting is not enough.
In the past 7 years we’ve studied, deconstructed, analyzed and learned how to teach the art of pedaling to cyclists of all levels. Our proprietary indoor coaching system, eCycling, has given us the opportunity of observing cyclists of all levels; pedaling their bikes over thousands of hours. This advantage has given us a unique understanding of muscle recruitment sequences essential to cycling performance and perhaps most importantly the experience to effectively teach it to anyone willing to learn.
