eFit

eFit is our biomechanics lab and bike fit service. An essential component of our eCycle of fitness philosophy, this is where we assess your position on the bike, diagnose factors that will improve your biomechanical efficiency and comfort and make the necessary adjustments to achieve the best possible fit on your bike.

Preventing overuse injuries and finding comfort and balance on your bike are essential to a lifetime of safe cycling enjoyment. But the inherently unnatural act of pedaling (compared to walking or running) as smoothly and efficiently as possible requires a hugely complex coordination of multiple joints and muscles. When you consider that the action of pushing the pedals is repeated many thousand revolutions on each ride, it becomes obvious that even simple and apparently miniscule improvements in form or technique can result in major performance gains and also minimize the risk of injury.

A good bike fit will improve muscle recruitment coordination, bike-handling skills, and comfort and minimize the risk of injury.

Bike fitting is a combination of art, science and experience. There is not a scientifically validated protocol in cycling biomechanics that can be universally applied to all cyclists.

A good bike fitter will know the science behind the complex muscle recruitment patterns involved in pedaling and the cognitive factor that enables them to see it in action, explain how it works and teach it. Fitters who have many years of experience at cycling’s elite level and have been exposed to the most elite resources usually have “the eye” that can’t be learned in schools or clinics.

Choose a fitter that combines experience and knowledge with the latest technologies.

Today’s benchmark for gathering data is the 3D motion capture system, Retül.

Retül is 3D motions capture technology designed specifically for cycling.
Retül has developed the technology to three dimensionally capture the movement of 8 LED sensors placed on a cyclist’s body. They have also created the software to analyze the power and efficiency of those movements at different positions on the bike – to basically build the rider as a 3D stick figure and record the mechanics of the pedal stroke.

The Retül system uses a 3D camera, a harness of infrared LED lights and a digitizer that continually logs data while the rider is riding.

This is a great question and the most misunderstood concept about Retül.
It is a fitting tool…the most comprehensive fitting tool available. But, there is no such thing as a “fitting system”. In the rights hands, Retül can be a powerful tool in fitting riders to their bikes.
Our bike fit involves more than just achieving the best possible position on your bike. We want you to leave with a clear understanding of proper pedaling mechanics and a fit that enables you to apply them easily.

Like many fit services today, we have the latest technologies to capture data and the knowledge to assess it and place you in a generally accepted position on your bike. But if like most cyclists, you’re only converting a small percentage of energy into pedaling mechanical force, this standard approach to bike fitting is not enough.

In the past 7 years we’ve studied, deconstructed, analyzed and learned how to teach the art of pedaling to cyclists of all levels. Our proprietary indoor coaching system, eCycling, has given us the opportunity of observing cyclists of all levels; pedaling their bikes over thousands of hours. This advantage has given us a unique understanding of muscle recruitment sequences essential to cycling performance and perhaps most importantly the experience to effectively teach it to anyone willing to learn.

The entire bike fit process takes about 2 hours. Once you schedule an appointment an email confirmation will note the length of your appointment time.
Scheduling an appointment is easy. Call us during regular business hours or select ‘schedule an appointment’ to access our automated appointment scheduler.
